{"id":213,"date":"2015-02-15T17:38:11","date_gmt":"2015-02-15T17:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.talklou.com\/?p=213"},"modified":"2015-02-15T17:38:11","modified_gmt":"2015-02-15T17:38:11","slug":"talk-visited-dc-to-advocate-for-it-sector-with-techamerica-flyin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/talklou.com\/?p=213","title":{"rendered":"TALK Visited DC to Advocate for IT Sector With TechAmerica Flyin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Louisville, KY, February 13, 2015 \u2013\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.talklou.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/01227-DC-Flyin-banners-03-200x200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-155\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.talklou.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/01227-DC-Flyin-banners-03-200x200.jpg\" alt=\"01227 DC Flyin-banners-03-200x200\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/talklou.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/01227-DC-Flyin-banners-03-200x200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/talklou.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/01227-DC-Flyin-banners-03-200x200-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>This week, Dawn Yankeelov, Executive Director\/CEO from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talklou.com\">Technology Association of Louisville Kentucky (TALK)<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aspectx.com\">Aspectx<\/a>, joined TechAmerica to advocate for IT sector priorities on Capitol Hill during the organization\u2019s annual fly-in to Washington, D.C. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techamerica.org\/\">TechAmerica<\/a>, the public sector and public advocacy department of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comptia.org\/home\">CompTIA<\/a>, works to provide a voice to tech companies on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n<p>As a TechAmerica DC Fly-In participant representing Kentucky\u2019s tech council, Ms. Yankeelov met with the offices of Majority Leader Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), US House of Representative John Yarmuth (D-KY), Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), Senator John Thune (R-SD), US House of Representative John Ratcliffe (R-TX), and Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) to focus their attention on policies that develop skills for the 21<sup>st<\/sup> century workforce, advance tax and regulatory policies that spur innovation, lead in secure internet-based platform technologies, support new and emerging technology platforms through policies, address availability and delivery of broadband communications, expand markets and advocate for sensible rules of global trade, and advance common sense reforms in government procurement and acquisition. Congressman John Ratcliffe ws recently named in January as the subcommittee chairman on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Security Technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Other Kentucky companies represented were Tier 3 Technologies, and Commercial Connect Inc., and VersaTrace LLC.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Michael Paynter of Tier 3 Technologies serves on a state and local committee involving issues of broadband for municipalities in Kentucky and brought this subject up in the Flyin with Kentucky Congressmen, as a TechAmerica DC Fly-In participant.<\/p>\n<p>Jeffrey Smith, CEO of Commercial Connect, LLC met with Congressional subcommittees to focus their attention on policies pertaining to ecommerce, ICANN oversight, and the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTech sector innovation is a key force behind a strong 21<sup>st<\/sup> century economy and, Congress should prioritize issues that affect technology companies,\u201d said Ms. Yankeelov, Executive Director\/CEO of TALK. \u201cThese issues include ensuring tax and regulatory policies that spur innovation; and immigration reform that includes making it easier to recruit and retain the \u2018best and the brightest\u2019 of high-tech workers in an effort to close the skills gap and remain globally competitive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the tech sector grapples with the implementation of 2015 Congressional priorities, TechAmerica will continue to facilitate open discourse between legislators and technology companies of all sizes,\u201d said Todd Thibodeaux, president and CEO of CompTIA. \u201cThrough a balanced, multi-policy approach that incorporates the needs of hiring businesses, Congress can boost economic growth nationwide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Fly-In ran February 10-11, 2015.
