Recruitment of High School Teachers and College-Age Leaders Begins for Cyber Camps

TALK would like to alert educators and college-age leaders about the possibility of leading up to 4 cyber camps this summer in Louisville via a UPS grant.

Training is provided, and you will be paid for your time both for the training and the cyber camps. Please take a look at this opportunity. By participating in the training, and leading at least one cyber camp this summer, additional opportunities are available for next spring break and summer as well. Retired high school teachers and college professors are eligible to participate as well.

TALK, your local tech council, and UPS have partnered to bring this exciting STEAM curricula to students in West Louisville and throughout Louisville. Attendees at the camp will be middle and high school students excited about math and science. Each cyber camp is a standalone event—curricula is repeated. The camps will be held at Louisville Central Community Center, and Neighborhood House.

Training by an instructor from NICERC, representing the federal Cyber Innovation Center will be on:
May 30 and May 31st, Tuesday and Weds. 9 AM to 3 PM at the Louisville Central Community Center, 1300 W Muhammad Ali Blvd, Louisville, KY 40203. Lunch will be a brown bag discussion opportunity. TALK provides the soft drinks/water.

Confirmed Cyber Camp Dates: Starting Week of June 12th, 9 AM to 3 PM at the Neighborhood House; Week of June 19th, 9 AM to 3 PM at LCCC; Week of July 10th, 9 AM to 3 PM at LCCC; Week of July 24th at Neighborhood House, 9AM to 3 PM. Target Audience: Interested Middle and High Schoolers; Up to 25 students per class.

You must be able to commit to teaching at least one week-long cyber camp this summer, listed above, to be included in the compensated training.

Curricula from a federally-approved resource–NICERC. For these camps, you will use a Parallax® Boe-Bot® microcontroller as the platform for teaching student robotics fundamentals. This curricula could be reused at no cost and certainly be integrated into your classroom for several weeks of science or math under ‘cyber literacy.’
